Isn’t it remarkable how dogs, even in the hardest times of their lives, continue to hold on to hope? It’s as if they instinctively know that better days are on the horizon.

That’s exactly what happened in this story. After being abandoned, this dog refused to let go of his smile, sensing that his life was about to improve.

Abandoned But Not Afraid

It is my pleasure to introduce Goose, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose spirit remained bright even during his darkest moments.

One day, Goose was found tied to a fence, accompanied by a heartbreaking note from his previous owners stating that they no longer wanted him.

Two passersby approached him, intending to give him a gentle pat, never suspecting he had been abandoned, as Goose never lost his radiant smile.

Upon learning of his sad situation and seeing his unbroken spirit, one of them decided to do more than just walk by. She extended a loving hand and offered to take him in, said Lindsey Hawkins, Goose’s new foster mom.

If you thought Goose’s smile couldn’t get any bigger, just wait until he discovers he's finally going home.

Lindsey was thrilled to bring him to her house as his temporary foster mom, but Goose had other plans.

During the entire ride, he kept trying to climb from the back of her SUV to the front seat—and eventually into her lap.

When they arrived home, Lindsey learned that Goose had spent his whole life outside. He was afraid to approach furniture and avoided hardwood floors entirely.

Goose mostly stuck to the rug in the living room or the carpeted hallway at first.

However, it didn’t take long for him to settle into his new environment. Within just a few days, he became inseparable from his new companions, which included a flock of chickens and a senior therapy dog named Zeus.

When Lindsay saw how well Goose fit in with the family, she knew he was there to stay.

The day we decided Goose would become a permanent member of our family, he stood on his hind legs, placed his front paws on my husband’s shoulders, and buried his head in his chest, as if to say, "Thank you."

In just two weeks, Goose completely embraced indoor living. He now jumps onto Lindsay's bed as if it were his own, and he's no longer hesitant about walking on hardwood floors.

Final Thoughts

Despite the challenges Goose has faced, he never lost his infectious smile. His resilience and unwavering spirit are truly inspiring.

Goose is even considering following in his brother Zeus' paw prints by becoming a therapy dog. There's no doubt he'll excel, spreading joy, comfort, and love with his unbreakable spirit.
